Her allegations brought down megachurch pastor Bruxy Cavey. Then the anonymous trolls came for her.
On Thursday night, the 24-year-old Christian college graduate, a University of Texas alum, was invited to give the opening prayer at an event at the Dallas Baptist Convention’s “Homecoming” convention.
She went and prayed in what she said was a “sacred space” when what she heard next was a chorus of voices, “‘We will cut you up and use your body parts to make a list of all the sins that you’ve committed.’”
It was then her world crumbled.
“I just stopped,” she says, “it was pretty intense.”
Then she started to cry.
A ‘Rape Culture in Our Prisons’
That is the opening prayer that the Dallas Baptist Convention (DBC) asked former megachurch pastor, Bruxy Cavey, to offer at their annual Homecoming convention on October 6.
The Dallas Morning News has written extensively about Cavey, who has preached that the “truth” is that God is God, and that we should have no problem with the gay marriage and abortion. He is known for holding “God’s” children accountable for their actions.
In 2014, after two men were arrested during the “Save the Children” event he spoke at, Cavey wrote an open letter to the men which stated, “While the Bible tells us that there are sins we will not do — like sex outside of marriage or abortion — there are also certain sins we can do even without God’s help.
“My fellow human beings, we live in a culture where sex outside of marriage is perfectly OK and the government even encourages this. (Read that three times)”
He added, “The Bible does not tell us that we can’t do any sin, even sin that is not against God. In fact, the Bible teaches us that we must live according to the Bible’s values in order to live a good life.” (Emphasis added)
